Located on the 45th Floor of the iconic General Motors Building on Fifth Avenue in New York City, this project houses executive office space for both IMG, the global sports, entertainment and media company and the private equity firm Forstmann Little. The project saw a gut renovation of the original 18,000 feet of space, with eighty percent dedicated to IMG and twenty percent dedicated to Forstmann Little. The two offices share a centralized elevator access point but maintain separate entrances at either end of the elevator bank.
The space’s organization designates placement for executive offices, conference rooms, meeting spaces, and presentation areas as well as bathrooms, pantry and administrative areas. Executive offices line the perimeter while support spaces surround the core of the office. The layout capitalizes on the abundance of natural light and the height of the setting by allowing light to stream in from the offices to the shared spaces through acid-etched glass doors. Between executive offices glass partitions with a directional polarized interlayer encourage light to flow between the individual spaces while maintaining privacy. A translucent cylindrical conference room at the center provides the “hearth” of the space and continues the play of light.
The selection of materials was guided by the concept of warm tones and palette. Custom teak millwork accentuates the offices, conference rooms and board rooms, offsetting the brown leather furnishings. Siena limestone is implemented in the lobby and bathrooms. In conjunction with IMG’s identity as one of the world’s foremost media companies, emerging technology is integrated into every feature, from the expansive media wall in the reception area to the communications systems in the conference rooms to the motorized shades.
