This private residence on a site separate from the hotel within the Tianjin Shining Star Group’s Development known as “The World” is designed to accommodate public functions and private dwelling as well as guest facilities and a pool house totaling approximately 3,500 square meters. The white panels and glazed surfaces articulate undulating forms juxtaposed with strong geometric volumes.
A sculptural stair is located within the dramatic entry area of the villa. The lobby leads to a formal living room bathed in light streaming from the double-height glazed glass which captures the water and views. The program for the first two floors is dedicated to entertaining and business functions, accommodating gatherings on a variety of scales. The third floor contains the more private areas such as the family dining area, kitchen, children’s bedrooms, family room and a large terrace with a bamboo grove. The master bedroom suite is a penthouse with panoramic views to all exposures located on the top floor overlooking the double-height family room through an open void. A play of light and shadow is carefully balanced throughout the villa, responding to the individual nature of the site.
On the south side of the site, a tranquil minimalist-style tea house floats on a large infinity edged reflecting pool. An indoor pool and guest house frame the residence and anchor the site at the east end of the island while also relating to the entrance forecourt. The sweeping brise-soleil provides a filter for light into the pool house and transforms the space throughout the day. Guest quarters occupy the upper floors of the pool house with spa facilities which can be accessed from an entrance stair from the outside or through an enclosed walkway bridge from the 2nd floor of the residence.
