DESCRIPTION
Artery is a harmonious progression of glass volumes that consists of an 18-story tower, set atop a 6-story podium that are connected by a luminous glass-covered galleria. The tower responds to the “urban hill” concept in the business district—its massing is regulated with the sequential growth of neighboring towers, creating a harmonious urban composition. The geometry creates a unique expression enriching the city skyline and improving its multi-dimensionality. The bold, sculptural design of this multi-faceted glass tower reflects the light, sky and Lithuanian surroundings with a play of transparent and opaque surfaces.
The 20,000 square meter building complex is strategically located steps from the nexus of the White Bridge, Neris River and the Old Town, in the heart of the Vilnius business district on Konstitucijos Avenue 18B. The forecourt across from Europa Square, galleria, and greenspace across from the Neris River waterfront park, synchronize to create an expansive urban space that stretches from the river to the heart of the business district.
The ground floor contains the public facilities, including the twin lobbies for the hotel and office tower, retail spaces, a restaurant, and a bar. The first 6 floors of the podium house the hotel of about 260 rooms. Floors 7-18 house approximately 9,500 square meters of Class A office space.
In the ongoing design process, Studio Libeskind is exploring methods to mitigate the environmental impact of the building. Geothermal pumps and ground-water wells are being explored, as are solar collectors and hydronic floor heating and cooling.
